Has God the receiver off the hook

"I didn’t get elected but at least no one died" That was one of the comments I used to console myself on my lack lustre election performance, then some one died and election results paled into insignifance.

Howard Flannery was killed tragically while simply riding a bike. Here was a guy that did nothing but good in the world his assistance and presence a clear example of the power of positive thought and action. It leaves me clambering for reasons. Was it the will of God ? well I think The Philosopher Clarence Day summed that up when he wrote of his father

"Father expected a great deal of God. He didn’t actually accuse God of inefficiency, but when he prayed his tone was loud and angry, like that of a dissatisfied guest in a carelessly managed hotel"

But the "free will" clause let’s God off the hook. I am not going to try to make sense of Howards death it But for this column I mourn his passing.

He who has gone, so we but cherish his memory, abides with us, more potent, nay, more present, than the living man
